Moshav Yesha

Founded in 1957 by Egyptian Jewish families seeking refuge after the Suez Crisis, Yesha is a resilient agricultural moshav nestled in the sun-drenched Hevel Shalom region of the Negev. While its name translates to "Salvation," the community was profoundly tested on October 7, when it lost almost its entire civilian defense squad in a heroic stand against the Hamas attacks.

An Oasis of Resilience in the Negev

From Egyptian Roots to Modern Agricultural Strength

Founded in 1957 by Jewish families expelled from Egypt following the Suez Crisis, Yesha is a thriving agricultural moshav located in the Hevel Shalom region of the southern Negev. Its name, meaning "Salvation," reflects the biblical hope of its founders as they transformed the arid desert landscape into a productive community under the jurisdiction of the Eshkol Regional Council. Today, the moshav is home to over 650 residents who maintain a quiet, rural lifestyle centered around the land, continuing a legacy of pioneering spirit that has defined the region for decades.

The community's peace was shattered during the October 7 attacks, an event that left a permanent mark on the moshav's history. Yesha’s emergency response squad engaged in a desperate and heroic defense against Hamas militants, a battle that tragically claimed the lives of five of its six members: Lior Ben Yaakov, Gil Avital, Itai Nachmias, Tal Maban, and Dan Assulin. The violence also extended to the international community working within the moshav, as foreign agricultural workers from Thailand were kidnapped and killed, leaving the village to mourn both its local heroes and the partners who helped tend its fields.
