Kibbutz Ruhama
As the first modern Jewish settlement in the Negev, Kibbutz Ruhama is a historic desert jewel where 1912-era pioneer roots meet a stunning landscape of rolling hills and nature reserves. While the quiet sanctuary of its specialized care centers and agricultural fields was shattered by the surrounding chaos of October 7, the community’s resilient spirit remains the ultimate "remnant of Israel," inviting partners to help safeguard this foundational piece of history.
Generations of Growth
A Century of Mercy and Unshakable Roots
Founded in 1912, Ruhama holds the prestigious title of the first modern Jewish settlement in the Negev desert. Its history is a saga of pure persistence; the community was established and abandoned three times—facing locust plagues, wartime deportations, and economic hardship—before finally taking permanent root in 1944. Today, this "Mercy" (Ruhama) of the desert is a vibrant hub of agricultural innovation and high-tech PCB design, nestled within a breathtaking nature reserve that stands as a testament to the endurance of the Zionist dream.
On October 7, 2023, the tranquility of this historic outpost was violently interrupted as the Western Negev became a battlefield. While Ruhama’s dedicated security teams stood guard to protect its nearly 800 residents and its specialized care center for the elderly, the trauma of the regional assault forced a difficult evacuation and halted the rhythm of kibbutz life. Now, as the community returns to tend to its orchards and heritage, there is an urgent need for support to bolster security infrastructure and revitalize the social fabric of this pioneering landmark. Your contribution ensures that the first light of the Negev continues to shine for generations to come.
