Moshav Mlilot

Rooted in the golden fields near Netivot, Mlilot is a storied religious moshav founded by Iranian and Kurdish pioneers where the scent of ripe wheat—its namesake—drifts across 4,000 dunams of historic Negev soil. Since the events of October 7, this frontier community has transformed from a quiet agricultural enclave into a symbol of spiritual and physical grit, as residents draw on their deep-seated traditions to cultivate hope and regrowth on the doorstep of the Gaza envelope.

The Golden Harvest of the Negev

From Kurdish Roots to Frontier Resilience in Israel's South

Founded in 1953 by Jewish immigrants from Iran and Kurdistan, Mlilot is a religious moshav that embodies the agricultural spirit of the Sdot Negev region. Its name, meaning "Bundle of ripe wheat," reflects the fertile landscape of 4,000 dunams that these pioneering families transformed from desert sands into a flourishing community. Today, the village of 546 residents remains a bastion of tradition and faith, where the heritage of the founding families is preserved through religious observance and a deep, multi-generational connection to the land.

During the devastating events of October 7, Mlilot stood as a critical frontier community on the edge of the Gaza envelope, witnessing the chaos and heroism that defined that day. While the village faced the immediate terror of the onslaught, the residents’ response was one of profound communal strength, quickly organizing to support defense efforts and provide a sanctuary for those displaced by the violence. In the wake of the attacks, Mlilot has emerged not just as a site of historical farming, but as a living testament to the resilience of Israel’s southern pioneers, who continue to tend their fields with a renewed sense of purpose and defiance.
