Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak

Founded in 1949 and named for the legendary Palmach commander Yitzhak Sadeh, Nir Yitzhak is a "Meadow of Strength" where a multi-generational community and international Garin Tzabar volunteers have spent decades cultivating the northwestern Negev frontier. During the brutal morning of October 7, the kibbutz endured a relentless assault that saw residents murdered and families torn apart by abductions; today, your partnership is essential to help this brave community heal from its losses and secure the return of those still held in Gaza, ensuring Yitzhak’s Meadow can flourish once more.

Yitzhak's Meadow of Resilience

A Sentinel of the Northwestern Negev

Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak is a community defined by its pioneering spirit and its role as a supportive home for those who come to serve Israel. Affiliated with the Hashomer Hatzair movement, it is well-known for hosting the Garin Tzabar program, which provides a "home away from home" for Jewish youth from around the world who volunteer for the IDF. For over 75 years, the kibbutz has maintained a vibrant social and agricultural life, situated strategically between Hevel Shalom and Hevel Eshkol, turning the desert sands into a productive and welcoming garden.

The events of October 7, 2023, brought deep tragedy to the gates of Nir Yitzhak. Hamas militants infiltrated the kibbutz, leading to an intense struggle where members of the local security team and residents were killed or kidnapped. While the community celebrated the daring rescue of two hostages, Luis Har and Fernando Marman, in February 2024, the pain remains acute as several members were confirmed killed in captivity. Today, Nir Yitzhak is focused on rebuilding its physical infrastructure and providing the deep emotional support needed for its survivors. By twinning with or donating to Nir Yitzhak, you are helping to fortify their security systems, supporting the Garin Tzabar house, and ensuring that this vital community can continue its mission of strength and sanctuary on the border.

Twinned with Miller, Lewis, and Olcha Families

Fueled by the generous support of three generous Australian families and the coordination of the Eshkol Regional Council, Magen 48 delivered crucial first response and civil defense training. This intensive program fundamentally empowered the resilient citizens of Nir Yitzhak to protect their community against any future threat. Today, Nir Yitzhak stands not just rebuilt, but reborn—vigilant and prepared to defend its peaceful way of life.
