Moshav Mavki'im

True to its name meaning "Breakthroughs," Moshav Mavki'im is a resilient community near Ashkelon founded by Hungarian immigrants and later enriched by families seeking a new start after the 2005 Gaza disengagement. Since the devastating events of October 7, the moshav has been on the front lines of recovery, standing as a vital "breakthrough" point for security and communal healing; your partnership ensures that these 500 residents can continue to fortify their homes and build a brighter, more secure future for the next generation.

A Legacy of Breakthroughs

Resilience Built on Historic Ground

Moshav Mavki'im holds a unique place in the landscape of southern Israel, founded in 1949 by Hungarian Holocaust survivors who had served in the IDF. Originally a kibbutz, it transformed into a moshav shitufi in 1954, maintaining a communal spirit that has defined its character for decades. The moshav's identity is one of constant welcoming; in 2005, it opened its heart and land to 25 families evacuated from Pe'at Sadeh, creating a community where diverse histories of migration and resettlement converge just minutes from the coastal city of Ashkelon.

While the "breakthrough" of its name originally honored a 1948 military victory, the events of October 7, 2023, have given the word a new, somber meaning. As part of the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council, Mavki'im faced the brunt of regional instability, requiring its residents to once again mobilize for defense and navigate the heavy psychological toll of being on the border's edge. Twinning with Mavki'im today is a powerful way to support a community that has spent 75 years turning displacement into belonging, helping them ensure that their newest "breakthrough" is one of lasting peace and restoration.
