Moshav Givulim

Established in 1952, this serene religious moshav preserves the rich cultural tapestry of its Iraqi and Kurdish founders across 3,000 dunams of fertile southern landscape near Netivot. Since the seismic events of October 7, Givolim has transitioned from a quiet agricultural enclave into a courageous symbol of frontline endurance, where the community’s deep-rooted faith serves as the primary "stalk" supporting their continued presence in the Negev panhandle.

Resilience Rooted in the Southern Soil

From the Mountains of Kurdistan to the Frontlines of the Negev

Givolim, whose name aptly translates to "Stalks," is a religious moshav that serves as a living testament to the diverse Mizrahi heritage of Israel's early pioneers. Founded in 1952 by Jewish immigrants from Iraq and Kurdistan, the village spans 3,000 dunams of golden agricultural land near Netivot, where traditional observance meets modern farming. Today, its population of over 500 residents maintains a close-knit communal atmosphere, preserving the unique linguistic and culinary traditions of their ancestors while contributing to the vital "breadbasket" of the Sdot Negev Regional Council.

The quiet rhythm of life in Givolim was irrevocably altered on October 7, 2023, as the moshav found itself positioned on the perilous edge of the Gaza envelope during the Hamas-led attacks. While the community faced the immediate terror of the regional onslaught, the aftermath has seen Givolim emerge as a site of quiet, spiritual defiance. In the wake of the tragedy, the residents have leaned heavily into their religious foundations to navigate the trauma of the frontier, transforming their agricultural "stalks" into symbols of regrowth and unwavering commitment to the land they have cultivated for over seven decades.
