Moshav Yakhini
Founded in 1950 by Yemenite pioneers who arrived during the historic Operation Magic Carpet, Moshav Yakhini is a vibrant community rooted in the biblical heritage of the Tribe of Simeon and known for its welcoming student village that supports the next generation of scholars from nearby Sapir College. The moshav’s long history of resilience was met with profound tragedy on October 7, when it became the site of a devastating massacre that claimed the lives of seven residents; your partnership today is a vital lifeline to help these families heal from their grief and rebuild the spiritual and communal heart of this historic Yemenite sanctuary.
A Legacy of the Tribe of Simeon
From the Sands of Yemen to the Negev Frontier
Moshav Yakhini is a community where ancient history meets modern pioneering. Named after the son of the patriarch Jacob, the village was built by immigrants who traveled across the desert from Yemen to fulfill a centuries-old dream of returning to the land of their ancestors. Today, it is home to nearly 800 residents who have preserved their unique Yemenite traditions while cultivating the northern Negev soil. Its student village creates a youthful, energetic atmosphere, bridging the gap between the moshav’s traditional agricultural roots and the academic world of Sderot.
The peace of Yakhini was shattered on the morning of October 7, 2023, when terrorists infiltrated the moshav, targeting families in their homes. Seven members of the community were murdered in a brutal attack that left the survivors struggling with immense trauma and loss. Despite the tragedy, the spirit of the moshav remains unbowed, as residents focus on restoring their agricultural livelihoods and supporting the students who are the lifeblood of their local economy. By twinning with or donating to Yakhini, you are investing in the recovery of a community that represents the deep cultural mosaic of Israel, providing essential funds for memorial projects and psychological rehabilitation for a village that has stood firm for over seventy years.
