Moshav Yated
Rising from the desert in 1982, this resilient agricultural moshav in Hevel Shalom is defined by its sun-drenched greenhouses and a community of 800-plus residents dedicated to high-tech farming and desert entrepreneurship. Though it faced the shadow of the October 7 attacks, the village’s security successfully repelled the attempted infiltration, preserving Yated as a steadfast bastion of life along the southern frontier.
Cultivating the Frontier
From Sinai Roots to a Greenhouse Oasis in Hevel Shalom
Established in 1982 by a group of pioneers originally destined for the Sinai, Yated has grown into a flourishing moshav in the Eshkol Regional Council with a population of over 800. The settlement is defined by its commitment to advanced desert agriculture, where a vast network of high-tech greenhouses produces a bounty of vegetables and flowers for both domestic and international markets. Beyond the fields, the community has evolved through residential expansions like the "Build Your Home" project, creating a diverse landscape where private entrepreneurship and education thrive alongside traditional farming.
The quiet of this agricultural haven was shattered on October 7, 2023, during the large-scale Hamas-led attack on southern Israel. As terrorists attempted to breach the moshav’s perimeter, the local defense and security forces successfully repelled the invaders, preventing an infiltration and saving the community from the devastation seen in neighboring kibbutzim. Today, Yated stands as a symbol of resilience on the southern border, with its members continuing to tend their crops while maintaining a steadfast commitment to the land they have cultivated for over four decades.
