Moshav Pri Gan—whose name literally translates to "Fruit Garden"—carries a heritage of deep-seated resilience. Established in 1981 by families who were evacuated from the Sinai settlement of Pri'el following the historic Egyptian-Israeli Peace Treaty, these residents are masters of the desert, specializing in the vibrant cultivation of vegetables and flowers. It is a place where the landscape's stark beauty meets the high-tech agriculture of the 21st century, creating an oasis of productivity just kilometers from the Gaza border.​

The morning of October 7, 2023, tested the moshav’s spirit unlike ever before when Hamas militants breached the perimeter. In a rare and moving display of "shared fate," a security team from the nearby community of Shlomit rushed to Pri Gan’s aid, engaging in a fierce, multi-hour firefight that ultimately repelled the invaders. While the intervention saved every single resident of Pri Gan, it came at a staggering price, and the community is now focused on rebuilding not just their physical homes and farms, but the deep communal bonds forged in that fire.
