Moshav Shokeda

Founded in 1957 by Moroccan pioneers, Shokeda is a vibrant religious moshav where 6,000 dunams of heritage come alive each winter as a breathtaking sea of wild red poppies carpets the landscape. While the community’s "Red South" festival traditionally celebrates rebirth and beauty, the devastating shadow of October 7 has left these resilient families in need of a global partnership to safeguard their fields and ensure that their unique Moroccan-Israeli spirit continues to bloom in the face of adversity.

The Crimson Heart of the Negev

Heritage, Poppies, and Resilience

Shokeda is far more than a quiet agricultural moshav; it is a living bridge to the North African Jewish experience. Established by Moroccan immigrants through the Jewish Agency, the community has preserved its religious traditions and warm Sephardic heritage while managing massive tracts of Negev soil. It is most famous internationally for the "Darom Adom" (Red South) festival, where the fields around the moshav transform into a world-renowned natural wonder of red anemones, drawing thousands to witness the desert’s winter transformation.

However, the tranquility of Shokeda was shattered on October 7, 2023. As a neighboring community to Netivot and Kfar Maimon, Shokeda’s residents were thrust onto the front lines, their local security team working tirelessly to shield their families as the conflict raged just kilometers away. Today, the moshav is focusing on "healing the soil" and restoring its tourism-based economy, which was halted by the war. Partnering with Shokeda means supporting a community that represents the intersection of Israeli nature and tradition, providing essential funds for security upgrades and trauma-informed community programming to ensure the poppies can be enjoyed in peace once more.
