Moshav Zimrat
Founded in 1957 by Tunisian pioneers and named for the biblical "song" of salvation, Moshav Zimrat is a resilient religious community where 4,500 dunams of southern soil are dedicated to faith and agriculture. While the moshav was spared a direct ground invasion on October 7, its residents faced a harrowing evacuation to Eilat and returned to find their quiet nursery and fields transformed into an army post; your partnership today provides the vital "strength and song" needed to revitalize their local economy and restore the spirit of this dedicated border home.
A Sanctuary of Strength and Song
Tunisia's Legacy in the Negev Soil
Moshav Zimrat—meaning "Song"—carries a heritage of deep-seated resilience and spiritual joy. Established by Tunisian Jewish immigrants who sought to build a community centered on Torah and the land, the moshav has flourished for over six decades within the Sdot Negev Regional Council. Its name, taken from the Song of the Sea in the Book of Exodus ("The LORD is my strength and song"), reflects the identity of its 800 residents: a community that finds its rhythm in the agricultural seasons and its harmony in communal prayer.
While the "song" of the moshav was interrupted by the sirens of October 7, the community became a vital rear-guard support for the region. Though Hamas terrorists did not breach the gates, the psychological weight of the nearby battles and the subsequent months of displacement in Eilat have left a lasting mark. Today, the families have returned, and soldiers often help harvest the crops when not in combat, symbolizing the unbreakable bond between the land and its defenders. By twinning with or donating to Zimrat, you are helping this historic "song" find its voice again, supporting local nursery revitalization and providing essential trauma support for the families who stand as a permanent guard on Israel’s southwestern frontier.
